1/9/2001 - The day I learned I wasn't invincible

On 1/9/2001, I was minding my own business, driving back to Temecula from my job in San Diego. I made a quick stop in Poway to drop off some equipment. As I made my way back on to the I-15N, I stopped at the red light that controls traffic flow onto the freeway...
The next things I remember are flashes. I remember lots of pain all over my body. I remember being told not to move. I remember feeling blood flow down the back of my kneck. I remember riding in an ambulance, and getting X-ray's and a CAT scan in the E.R.
After finally regaining full consciousness, I learned that I had stopped at the red light, and then been hit from behind. I was in a Saturn SC2. Its a very small 2-door coupe. The other person was driving a Ford F350 truck. Thats a 1-ton truck. I was stopped, they were going 45-50 miles per hour.
Needless to say, this resulted in catastrophic damage to my car. While I had no broken bones, I did receive a concussion to my head, and a very large, deep cut on my head.

My back is also very sore, though it is improving, as it is mostly muscular strain. Overall, my injuries are miracles, because although I've been in a lot of pain, ultimately I have my life, and that is a miracle. However, It will not ever be the same.

yuck!
this side faired better
There I am behind the wreck, resting my back on the wall. This is the side that got LESS damage...
hmmm, looks bad, but...
You can kinda see where I was through the door window here... but I'm sure the picture below has already got you...
OUCH!
You're basically looking down the barrell of the gun here. Thanks to the other guy for swerving towards the driver's side...NOT
inside...
Here's the inside view. They piled up a lot of the stuff from the back of the car on the seat after I was removed, but take a look at what I left behind on the head rests, and the back seat(which is displaced quite a bit).
2/2/01 -- Just an update here. Its been just over a year now and I'm doing much better now. Those staples came out about a week after the accident. My back still gives me fits, and my neck is still stiff, but things are going much better. Thanks for all the kind words from people out there. -spamaps
